Artist's Description of Hanging
In the beginning, God gave us all
creation. The circular design is meant to remind us not only of
this creation, and of the earth, but all the movement that transpires
within, the movement of the Spirit, and the winds of Pentecost.
This movement is centered around the sun, but will also be seen to to
be power and warmth from the cross above. Circular images also
remind us of the unending and unchanging love of God. While the
winds of change blow and move us, God's love goes on and on;
this strength is also illustrated in the strength of the trees.
God's love pours out for us in Baptismal
waters. It showers us like fresh rain on a coastal day. It
washes over us like the water of a waterfall. It is steadfast
like the river of life. It is the stream we can sit by
and find peace. You will find a stream in this
design. It is also the path to the light, as we walk along its
shores. Follow the path and you will reach the
light. Follow the baptismal waters of Christ and you will find
the light. This water also serves to nourish the trees of the
hanging and make the earth rich in colour. You will find rain
drops of blue showered in amongst the trees, giving the feeling of a
fresh rain.
Don't forget to look for the woodpecker!

The overall impression of this artwork
is of warmth, and presence of the Spirit. It is truly a holy
place, a sanctuary in the tall trees. It draws you in and takes your
eye from the colours upward to the cross in the church.
The hanging has a transparency which is intentional. Each time
you look at it you will see something different. One time you
will feel surrounded by tall trees, basking in the warmth of the
sun. Another time you will feel as though you are journeying
towards the light, firmly rooted in the grasses of the earth.
And yet, a third time you may feel hugged by God. Each of these
differences will give a depth which will make the work interesting
for years to come.
