brodie designs roots and wings

The theme of this hanging is "Roots and Wings".  The rising and setting sun reminds us of how steadfast God's love is in our lives - day in and day out.  The bird rises with the sun, no doubt healing in the gentle curves of it's wings.  The tree provides a strength, also rising off the waters with the sun and the bird.  It holds roots, and the many stories of your history.  But while those roots are important you can see that in  a strong, delicate way, the tree still wants to grow and dance.

The waters are refreshing, renewing waters of baptism.  On the left side of the hanging is more plant life, newer in growth.  This indicates that new life and young seedlings are important.  They also have roots, but they are much greener and much more in need of constant attention.  They have the potential of bearing fruit and flora for the future.  Reaching out from the bird in continuations of white are lilies, the symbol of Christ's death and resurrection at Easter.  Daffodils are also symbols of new life at Easter.  Connecting the flower and the seedling is a string of thorns.  No life is purely healing, purely sunrises or purely new growth.  There must be death to have life.  Christ died for us to live.
